Once you have decided the style and tone of what the wedding will be, you can move forward with ideas for your wedding gown. Most brides do like the their dress to go along with the tone of the wedding. For example, you might not want to wear a huge formal dress with a long train if you’re wedding is at a scenic outdoor location like a beach or lakeside.

Staying on budget for your wedding should not determine how pretty or how sentimental it will be. When you find the right dress at the right price, your guests will see a beautiful bride no matter the price of the wedding dress.

• Don’t let Bridal Shops scare you off. You can find bargains, sales and everyday good prices, especially at chain bridal stores. They do offer personal service and on site alterations, which is a plus for many brides.
• Check mall department stores. Keep an open mind and look at dresses outside of the bridal department. Check out cocktail gowns, formal dresses and prom dresses.
• The Internet is full of great deals. Try online auction sites, Craigslist.org and discount retailers. Be sure to use reputable sites or get recommendations. Shopping auction sites and community sites requires a little patience, as you may have to wait for the right dress to come along.
• If you are a one-of-a-kind of bride, shop Vintage Shops for a unique look at a great price.
• Look into renting your wedding dress and maybe even the bridesmaids dresses. There are bridal rental shops in some areas. This is a great idea if you are having a themed wedding like Medieval or Halloween. Costumes shops might have what you’re looking for too.
• Trunk Shows might be a good choice for you if you are really crazy for a particular designer or look. Discounts can be quite big at some shows.
• Have your dress made by your favorite seamstress. Having your dress made ensures you really get what you want.
• Check out several thrift stores in your area. You’ll be amazed at the wedding gowns that are gently used or never worn at all. Shop carefully and be prepared to have it dry-cleaned and altered.
• Check regular women’s catalogs. Many offer beautiful dresses not in the “bridal” category.
• A great FREE choice is to wear your mom or grandma’s wedding gown. It adds a special meaning to your wedding and is a huge money saver!
• You can put together a nice Do it Yourself gown! Buy a short or simple dress and add a tulle “apron”. Do this by gathering tulle and sewing ribbon on for a waistband to tie a bow. Ask at your fabric store how much tulle to buy. The coolest thing about using tulle is that you can cut it and it doesn’t need to be hemmed.
