When you have your bridal shower you can have a donation bowl towards reception food, location, etc.
Have your Maid of Honor announce the donation bowl and make your bridal shower party fun so people will see how fun this wedding can be with a little help from friends and family!
I'd be unsure what to do with a bride who invited me to a bridal shower only to have her maid of honor guilt me into donating money to the wedding. I brought a gift, wasn't that enough? I'll be getting married later this year, and I would never guilt my friends and family that way. Tacky..

People are already coming to your shower with a gift, and will probably give you a wedding gift as well. These people are your guests, not pockets to go digging into. A reception is supposed to be a way to say 'thank you' to the people you love for sharing in the celebration of your special day - that's why you don't charge at the door!
So tacky. I would be really upset if I was asked to 'donate' at a bridal shower.
