Vintage vs new
I am planning my daughters wedding for Sept 2011. My daughter loves old things and I am on a tight budget. Instead of having one multi tiered cake, I bought used crystal cake stands and we will have seven different cakes. The cakes will all be different colors and styles such as carrot cake, chocolate cake, white cake with coconut, etc.
Holland (my daughter) did not want the cheesy plastic wedding topper either. We have found at thrift stores several old porcelain figurines of couples that are getting married, each topper is different and vintage. Holland also wanted the tables to look old fashioned so I found lace table cloths and doilies to place all around the food areas.
The wedding dress also worked out well. We went on Craigslist and found a dress with the tags on it for $100. The dress is formal and has the lace up back for if Holland loses weight or gains a few pounds, dress needed NO alterations or cleaning!
Shopping the thrift stores and garage sales is the way to go for fake flowers too. Many people just want to get rid of the flowers for next to nothing. I will use the ivy for the arch and integrate more elaborate flowers on the surface so I can have a full arch and not be skimpy.
