Walmart Cakes are a great bargain.
by: Mother of the Groom

I had my wedding in 2000 and we not only got our cake from walmart but all our food, we had chicken and several sides. Could not beat the price nor the quality, the cake was beautiful and delicious. Everyone complemented me on my wedding that was for 100 and done on a budget of about $1500. People still talk about my wedding which was classy and mostly traditional but without anyone going into debt and without all the stress. Now my son is getting married and has asked me to do his. We will be doing a walmart cake for his as well... food too. I am sure there have been some issues, but I know too that their cake are good and affordable and they are pretty fair about fixing problems. I paid for my own wedding and my son is paying for his. He is the middle of 5 kids and his fiance is the middle of 9, budget matters.

Walmart Cakes
by: Loveena

I've had wedding cakes, 50th Anniversary cakes and various other special occasion cakes made at Walmart. They've been able to replicate pictures I've brought in or design according to my theme/color.People have been floored when they find out its from Walmart. They thought it was baked by a local Pastry artist , but she has moved so Walmart is, my go to. Though I don't like fondant, theyve made fondant flowers, designs perfectly. The cake has always been moist and fresh. I've had 1 problem where a cake wasn't made as specified and The Mgr discounted by 40% and gave a $25 gift card.

Really?
by: AnonymousKelly

I am BOTH a baker and a WalMart Cake Decorator. I have benefits and 401k AND a side business. As far as feozen cakes, I will freeze my own to have ready. I don't care for Walmart icing, but the cakes taste good. I do nice work, as do my co-workers. I cringe at the pictures...it is sad. However, not all Walmart cakes are bad. I am also floored at how people bargain shop special occasion cakes and order last minute, but they trust me to do their cakes and I take it seriously.

Success with Walmart
by: Anonymous

I have ordered three wedding cakes from my local Walmart bakery for three different weddings. They were double-tiered with columns and had fillings. The bakery associates were very helpful. The cakes transported unharmed in heavy boxes, and went together easily. All three were beautiful and tasted great! There were loads of people complimenting the flavor of the cakes and asking where they were purchased.

My wife and I regrets ever going to Wal-Mart to get a wedding cake. The worker in the bakery tried to box our cake and while doing so, she hit the cake on the side of the box. The cake was also not what we ordered. We order the stack with Columns, and they gave us just stacked with black icing designs on the side of of the cake (which we didn't order). The worker that dropped the cake, admitted that she made the cake and she didn't usually make the cakes. Also they didn't have any boxes bigger enough to put our cake in. It was of the worst experiences of my life. If you want a nice cake for sure, pay a little bit more money.

Us "Bakers"
by: Anonymous

Guess that's ok if you want a greasy mess! Yes us " bakers know what's good. NOT Walmarts frozen hunk of cake but if that's what you want have at it. BTW, my 3 tier wedding cakes ARE also $200.00. Little More for fondant covered with hand made flowers and details, but of course Walmart don't do that so there is nothing to compare to there.

Great for any budget
by: Anonymous

All of the negative comments were from bakers if you notice, of course they are going to down walmart cakes. I will tell you that I have had specialty cakes from walmart and from local bakers and in taste, design and price. Walmart wins hands down. Like any thing you order from anywhere, the end design will depend on experience but as far as taste. Walmart cakes have been great. I did some research and found that all of the walmart bakery items have a time stamp. They are prepared, frozen and sold within 7 days. The same with the icing. The icing is the same butter cream that our local bakery makes and they go through a tub a day... so its not sitting around getting old. If I had money to throw away, I would be happy to spend 500-1000. on a wedding cake but I don't. 200.00 for a beautiful cake. I'm on it!!!

Don't trust your cake to Walmart!
by: Anonymous

Cake is not just cake! Your guest will tell you it was wonderful, what else would you expect??? Reality is, you could ski to the next town on that greasy mess they call buttercream!!! It slides down like a bite of pure lord! Also don't get me started on the FROZEN cake, or the people with NO experience who will be putting together and decorating your cake. Yes I charge a little more for my cakes. I deliver and set up and am available at all times to answer questions and make changes if need be. Try getting that at your friendly Walmart bakery. Just saying!!! Please don't take a chance on your cake being a flop. BTW would you buy your wedding dress at Walmart????

Good Cake - Great Price
by: SistaSuzy

We have seen more than a few Walmart Cakes at weddings we have officiated. They all been beautiful and affordable. We also hear that they taste very good.
When ordering a stacked cake ... remember that it has to be transported ! Transporting cakes is an art.
Also the baker / decorator needs to be experienced to do stacked cakes where it will be layer upon layer. A dowel in the center of the cake helps it not to slide when its transported.
I've been informed by the decorator also that having a filling such as raspberry - means the cake is prone to sliding.

Our Cake Was Beautiful!
by: Anonymous

We ordered our wedding cake and grooms cake from Walmart. They were both beautiful and we loved them. People actually asked who made them cause they were good.

Just like with everywhere else I spoke with the lady who would be making it, asked her a bunch of questions, asked about her experience, showed her pictures of what I wanted, etc.

I actually went to 2 different Walmarts because the first lady I spoke with I just didn't get a good vibe on I think she would be great for the basic cake but not the detailed cake I wanted. I also went in a few days before I was to pick it up and again spoke with the baker to ensure we were both on the same page as to what I expected.

She also advised that I should try to pick it up early and see if the reception venue could store it in the refrig till time. That way if something was wrong they would have time to possibly remake it or at least touch it up.

CAKE COLLAPSED!!!!
by: Anonymous

Yes, you get what you pay for. I was on a budget, but If you could see the horrible mess of a cake I picked up, you would all faint!!!

Bad part is, I thought the worst of my troubles was that the cake was leaning some and looked like a kindergartener decorated it.

By the time we got the cake to the reception, the entire cake collapsed in front of all of my guests. It was the butt of the jokes for the entire rest of the day and I was completely humiliated! Turns out, the "decorator" had not bothered to anchor the 3 tiers together of my 3 tier stacked cake and if collapsed under it's own weight.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT cut corners and order something this important from WALMART!

Cakes
by: Amy

I have used the walmart bakery department here in NH for multiple special occasions.. always having gotten beautiful cakes. I know each store varies but some of them have wonderful decorators.

I used a design from their wedding catalog (smaller 2 tier with scroll) and changed the colors for my daughters christening.. also used them for my brothers baby shower cake (Safari Pals theme celebration cake) and it was GORGEOUS... Now mind you .. our local bakery (Which I consider one of the best in New England- Been featured in MANY MANY Catalogs- Wanted to charge me 199 for the same cake I got for 48 and personally- The taste of the cake was the same.

I would definitely recommend the walmart bakery .. Ordering a cake there tomorrow for a wedding and look forward to how it will come out!

Nothing but good things
by: Anonymous

I've ordered huge cakes from Walmart fit all occasions weddings baby showers and they have all tasted and looked wonderful.

Now I do have a friend who owns a pastry/ cake business and she can do any flavor and is extremely artistic. Yet there are times where her prices are within the budget for said event which is when we turn to Walmart.

I've even come in with pictures or ideas for cakes a d they've done it. Also had a cake made with fondant buy them I just had to purchase the fondant from the store no big whoop.

Divas, relax...its a cake...
by: Anonymous

"You get what you pay for" I am a firm believer in this saying and I always invest in things that are worth investing, but when it comes to wedding cake, its not just a couple extra bucks for a cake from a nice local bakery.

I have checked out at least 6 different places for my wedding cake and every one quoted me OVER DOUBLE the price of Walmart. That's not just a couple bucks. That is a huuuge deal when you are planning a wedding on a budget.

I have a feeling that the divas who say its worth the extra money, probably have their parents footing the bill or have never actually been on a serious budget. Besides, I have been a guest at several weddings and I barely even remember the cakes from any. I understand the wedding cake has a certain level of importance, but come on, its just the cake.

No one is going to give a shit about your wedding cake but you. As long as it is white, tiered, and pretty, I am happy with it.

Most people are full before the cake is ever even served anyway.

Wal mart cakes, Good????
by: Anonymous

Don't know what wal mart you guys are using but the wedding cakes and birthday cakes from the wal marts around here (there are 4 one just as bad as the other)SUCK!!! Dry and the butter cream taste like grease! You do know the cake is frozen and the butter cream is from a tub. Well to each his own, but I want a fresh cake with quality fresh butter cream and or fondant. Speaking of fondant, ask a wal mart baker to whip up some fondant flowers, should be good for a laugh!

Walmart wedding Cake! FABULOUS!
by: CJ

I recently had a small wedding(as a gift) for a friend at my home. All of the guests were from Very well to do families and used to the very best BEST! A friend told me(a little secret) about the Walmart wedding cakes. So I did a little research and decided to order the cake from my local Walmart (to save money). The cake was decorated in a Wedgewood blue with white trimming. Fabulous! As the guest came in all they could talk about was how lovely the cake was and how good it smelled. When it came time to cut the cake and have it served I was a little nervous. OMG!!!!!!! Everyone at the wedding must have asked me 10 times "WHERE DID YOU GET THE CAKE"(they must have named every exclusive bakery in town)!!!!! Several guests had seconds and some of them took yet another piece home.Bottom Line Walmart wedding cake is FABULOUS!!! Trust ME!!!

Cake decorator minnesota
by: Carrie

Do you really want a cake decorator who has 40 other orders for the weekend to decorate your wedding cake? I have worked at a Target, Coborns, and do an insane amount of weddings with my personal cake business. The answer is No. You get what you pay for always. No matter how big or small your budget. I Do Not Suggest this EVER!!!!!

Not only do you not get personal service or time allowed for your cake, but you get a crappy plain flavor too. Why would you not choose a fresh baked cake with some extra flavor. Pumpkin for fall, lemon or strawberry for spring ect. People may say the cake is good, but they don't know any better. The cost of a wedding in the long run is worth the extra few dollars for a awesome cake.

5-TIER WEDDING CAKE WAS A HUGE HIT!!!!
by: Anonymous

I was married October 2011, and got a 5 tier cake from Walmart for approximately $150. The cake was gorgeous and tasted absolutely delicious.

My guests raved over the cake, as they assumed I got the cake from an expensive bakery or the Publix bakery. Walmart exceeded my expectations at my wedding reception!

No, they don't deliver, but an employee from the bakery was nice enough to assemble the cake for me after they got off work.

I wish I could post a photo of the cake...it was breathtaking and delicious!!! Take my advice, get your wedding cake from Walmart and save your money!!!! No one will know the difference unless you tell them!!!

Betty Crocker fresh or WalMart Frozen... for God knows how long!!!

My cakes are fresh made with home made butter cream. Maybe you think WalMart cakes taste good.

Try them after you have a fresh baked (yes even Betty Crocker)cake with real butter cream (Not out of a tub)

I'm getting married June 2012 and I'm going to order my cake from the Walmart in Mass. I've seen their work and do a great job and they have reasonable prices.

I asked a baker how much she would charge me for a dummy cake she said $180 and I asked her how about a real one she told me $400! For God sake she works out of her house and she uses Betty Crocker cake mix I only know cause I've been to her house and seen all the Betty Crocker cake mixes.

Home made fresh cake and icing that I would challenge walmart to even come close to!!!!

by: HLM

I wasn't even aware that walmart did wedding cakes until a friend ordered one for her wedding...I was skeptical at first, but the cake was GORGEOUS and tasted even better than it looked!

She paid less than $200 for it, compared to over $500 for a cake from another grocery store bakery.

I loved the cake so much I am ordering one for my wedding next month. For the price you can't beat it!!

Another Walmart Cake Decorator.
by: Kim

I've been decorating for 2 months now, had no experience when I started but caught on fast. It all depends on who you get to decorate your cake and how steady their hand is with the piping. (It's really stressful on the hands).

We can try to match designs up to certain limitations of who ever you get to decorate your cake. We also try to do it the day of or the day before, depending on when you ordered it.

My suggestion is to order your cake like a month or so in advance, and I would try to find out who they consider the better cake decorator and request them. For my store, we have someone who has been doing it for 15 years, and she's amazing.

Every cake decorator has their own style and will do different work on different cakes.

I am a cake decorator from walmart
by: Katie

I just wanted to let the girl know who said the frosting is 6 months old that it is not true at all. We use about a bucket of frosting a day and the cake..yeah it comes in frozen but the cake is awesome and I don't even really like cake. It does depend on the cake decorator. I know if you bring in a picture for me in Tucson where I work, I will do my best to make it the way you want to even the color you want. I am pretty good at matching the color.

I bought my Wedding Cake from the Walmart I worked at in Webster Texas and it was delicious. I got so many compliments on it and no one knew it came from Walmart. The cake decorator there did an awesome job and it was in the colors I chose. If I had it to do all over again I would get another cake from Walmart.

Priced too high for what you get
by: Cake Lover

If you check local bakers (try facebook and google) you can find a nice looking cake for a comparative price. Try a bakery that's just starting out. Tell them your budget and see what they can do.

WalMart cakes were made in some factory, frozen weeks ago and shipped in. Then they are iced with 6 month old icing. On top of that, OMG they are so ugly. They look like they died in the 1980s.

I searched high and low for the best prices on wedding cakes and well, this is the absolute best deal ever!

A 3 tier cake, or cascading style cake that feeds up to 128 people for $138.00, filled for $158.00... If you bring them in a design they will try to match it as well.

I'm going to make my own floral arrangements for the top and between the tiers to accent my wedding theme. Cake is cake... your just gonna eat it anyways, and I've never had any complaints about the quality of their cakes.

Great Bargain!
by: nursejeanneg

I ordered a white wedding cake with buttercream frosting for a 60th wedding anniversary. The cake was 135.00 and served 140 people.

When I picked it up it was fresh and was beautiful. It was packaged in very secure boxes for transport and great easy assembly instructions.

I bought fresh flowers and cut off the stems and decorated the cake. It matched all the others flowers used in the celebration. It was beautiful and delicious.

Everyone commented on the beauty and the taste. WOW! What a great bargain. I will do this again for any celebration I am planning. FIVE stars!!!!!

I think the person who decorates at walmart makes the difference. The cake that I saw at the wedding where she bought the walmart cake was extremely ugly and it was $180. I ordered the same size from an individual who has retired, it had a torte style, whipped cream and strawberries and it was beautiful and only $175, no tax she delivered and set itup, it was great. I will not buy another wedding cake from the walmart where I live, they have no talent.

by: Cortney

We are going to get our cake from walmart because lets face it...cake is cake is cake...it can vary sometimes in the moist part but it is still the same.

Also, since my fiance comes from a huge family, to save money, in addtion to the cake, my bridesmaids and mom are going to bake cupcakes the night before as a little bonding thing to do the night before the wedding.

Some of our guest wont want a full piece of cake, and a cupcake would do just fine. Our colors are green and brown, so we are thinking of doing chocolate cake with green icing, and then dye white cake green with chocolate frosting and alternating them on the cake table.

My walmart wedding cake.
by: Anonymous

I ordered my wedding cake from Walmart.....It was vanilla and had white icing and piping. It cost $250 and fed over 150 people and we had 2 tiers left over! It was so good. The only thing was the stand that we got with the cake, could not hold it all up....the cake was too heavy.

So my mom and I got creative and sat each tier on the table top that had been covered in Christmas lights and tulle.....put my toppers on top and we got so many compliments! This is a great, cheap idea......and is so good!!!
