Save On Creative Wedding Flowers

Cheap wedding flowers can be romantic and beautiful and help set the tone and formality of your wedding. You can have great visual impact without making a huge impact on your budget! It can cost you a bundle, but there are many ways to save yourself a lot of money. Consider using an online flower delivery service too.

Check out wholesalers in your area. You can use flowers from your own garden or the garden of friends. You can even use flowers by post, flowers from street vendors or the grocery store. Or try online shopping.

Just keep in mind to use blooms that hold up. Wedding flowers can range anywhere from single stems in containers to enormous arrangements. Like every aspect of your wedding, planning your flowers takes just that, planning…especially if you want to save money.

You will likely have a couple of places that you will need or want flowers, and they are the ceremony site and reception site.

A good starting point is to determine colors you would like. Do a little homework to determine flowers that will be in season at the time of your wedding as this may be the biggest money saver when it comes to wedding flowers.

Here are some Cheap Chic Tips to save money on wedding flowers:

  • Check with the wedding site to see if you may use any flowers or plants that may already be there.
  • Shop for a florist that is willing to give you what you need within your budget!
  • Mix inexpensive flowers in with just a couple of large exotic blooms for a more impressive arrangement at a cheaper price.
  • Consider decorating with potted plants and potted flowers at the site. This is a great green choice as you can plant these later or give as gifts!
  • Buy the flowers and filler and make your own arrangements. You can find lovely flowers at discount stores, supermarkets and warehouse clubs! Also check for local wholesalers who are willing to sell to you!
  • Use more greenery than flowers to build up arrangements. Consider also adding elements like twigs, ferns, leaves and evergreen branches.
  • Decorate seating areas without flowers…use pretty long lengths of ribbons or bows or even pretty paper cones. Save a little more by skipping every other row/pew when decorating.
  • If you have arches or trellises to decorate, use artificial flowers and greenery and secure with plastic cable ties from the hardware store. Try trailing greens like ivy!

Bouquets and Baskets Tips:

  • Many of the above tips apply to all flower projects.
  • Choose mini flowers as an inexpensive alternative. They can be used as filler or as a stand-alone choice.
  • Have the wedding attendants carry a single gorgeous bloom wrapped with pretty ribbon.
  • Mix Faux and Fresh together.
  • Cut out or cut down the “throwing bouquet”. Keep your bridal bouquet for yourself and save on the one you throw to your gal pals.
  • Discover online shopping when you are doing it yourself. There are great flowers, greenery and supplies available on the Internet!
  • Have the bridesmaid’s bouquets and flower girl basket made to match by color, not flower. You will save a lot by choosing less expensive flowers for them.

Boutonnieres and Corsages:

* Again, all of the above applies.

* If you do no other flowers yourself, consider making these.

Here’s how to make simple boutonnieres and corsages:

1. Cut the flower stem to about three inches.2. Wrap with floral tape.3. Include a pearl head pin with it.

That’s it!

DIY TIP…When you have purchased your fresh flowers, cut off about an inch of the stem at an angle under water and put them into a bucket of water until you are ready to arrange them.

Don’t forget that there are other floral and green arrangements that you can use to decorate in an elegant way. Use garlands, pomanders and topiaries that you can even make yourself. Find wonderful inspiration in craft stores and in magazines to help you save on wedding flowers.
